As a chartered National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation member, WVU’s Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center has more than a decade of experience caring for children with this debilitating disease. Our leading-edge research combined with our team approach results in the highest lung function for children with CF in the state.

Multi-Specialty Care
Because CF often affects many of the body’s organs and functions, and related complications can vary by patient age, our CF experts, other medical specialists, geneticists, counselors, and families work together as a team. This multi-specialty team approach ensures that the most comprehensive care is provided to each patient.

Recognized as a CF site for excellence and leadership in CF care, the Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center is one of only 18 Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutic Development Network Centers in the U.S., reflecting our expertise and leadership in CF research.

Services

Early and Aggressive Treatment
The Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center diagnoses and begins appropriate treatment as early as possible to prevent or reduce the progress of the disease.

Newborns Screened Positive for Cystic Fibrosis is a comprehensive program that evaluates infants who test positive for CF on newborn screening. The program offers therapeutic treatment for infants that are diagnosed with the disease and provides a genetic counselor to work with CF patients, families, and referring physicians.

The Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center places strong emphasis on a preventive approach to some of the complications of CF, particularly in relation to how the disease affects the lungs. Our Center includes pediatric and adult pulmonary specialists as primary caregivers as well as pediatric and adult subspecialty consultants. It is the only program in West Virginia to offer infant pulmonary function testing.

CF Research: Therapeutic Development Network
The CF clinic at WVU is one of 77 Therapeutic Development Network (TDN) CF Research sites in the US. The TDN designation allows patients with CF easy and rapid access into the CF research pipeline to clinical trials of the newest and latest CF medications. CF Research coordinators are Sue Collins, RN, and Tammy Clark, RN. For more information about the available studies and to participate in a CF clinical trial, call 304-293-7348 or 304-293-5264.
